Software
FreeAgent
FreeAgent is a cloud accounting platform often used by smaller businesses, contractors, consultants and service-based companies. We support FreeAgent bookkeeping, VAT, bank feeds, expense records and reporting where it fits the client’s setup and business needs.
Why this platform
FreeAgent can work well for smaller businesses that want a straightforward cloud accounting system for invoices, expenses, bank feeds, VAT and basic reporting.
We support FreeAgent where it is the right fit for the client. The key is making sure the bookkeeping process, VAT setup, bank reconciliations, expense records and reports are reviewed properly, rather than relying on the software to do everything automatically.

FreeAgent workflows and connected processes
FreeAgent works best when the surrounding bookkeeping routine is clear. We help review how invoices, expenses, receipts, bank feeds, VAT and reports are managed so the records are easier to keep up to date.
Proof
FreeAgent bookkeeping and VAT records brought into a cleaner routine.
A small service-based business was using FreeAgent, but the bookkeeping process had become inconsistent. Bank transactions, expenses, receipts and VAT records were not being reviewed regularly, which made it harder to rely on the figures.
We reviewed the FreeAgent setup, checked the bank feeds, tidied expense records, raised queries on missing information and supported a clearer VAT and bookkeeping routine. This helped the business move towards cleaner records and a better handover process for reporting and year-end support.

Questions
Is FreeAgent really free?
It’s free if you bank with NatWest, RBS, Ulster Bank or Mettle. Otherwise around £19/month for the cheapest plan. The NatWest deal is genuinely free — no catch.
When should I move from FreeAgent to Xero?
Usually around £250k turnover, when you start needing inventory, advanced reporting, deeper integrations or more than 1–2 users.
Can FreeAgent handle CIS?
Yes — it has CIS support for contractors and subcontractors. Less sophisticated than Xero but works.
Self Assessment integration — how does it work?
FreeAgent populates your Self Assessment with the figures from your limited company accounts. The director still has to file it but the data is already there.
Does FreeAgent do MTD?
Yes — fully MTD-compliant for VAT and Income Tax (when ITSA goes live).
